Student Testimonials

I can definitely say that [Mr. Fierova] has been a great teacher to work with, a great person to know, and one of the best musicians with whom I have played French horn. I had a great teacher throughout middle school and high school. I was concerned about continuing that level of excellence in college, until I started working with Mr. Fierova. What I find most supportive about his approach to the horn is his ability to tailor the lessons to the requirements of the player. In my case, I asked him to push me to my potential, and that is exactly what he has done time and time again.

I have had 3 horn teachers, and Mr. Fierova is by far the best.  Mr. Fierova enriches your understanding of music and the fundamental aspects of playing the horn. He has an extensive understanding of music and practice techniques. He dissects and breaks down your playing into improvable elements. For example, I used to have greater trouble with higher register notes, however, Mr. Fierova showed me how to relax my embouchure and channel the air more efficiently through various exercises. His explanation of connectivity between your facial muscles, airspeed, and air pressure of playing the horn helped me climb over a longstanding mental hurdle when it came to higher register playing. Indeed, he helps improve your playing ability in a myriad of ways you would not have known how to fix otherwise. In lessons, he beautifully explains both music theory and the intricacies of playing the horn. Ultimately, Mr. Fierova’s teaching has profoundly deepened my passion for playing the horn and music.

I have recently resumed my study of the horn after a long hiatus, and I could not be happier to have become a student of Andrew’s.  His knowledge of the instrument and teaching philosophy was immediately apparent.  Moreover, he is engaging as a human and makes the experience very enjoyable.  I believe that what sets Andrew apart is the way that his ability, knowledge and work ethic sum together.  In that, I believe he can relate to any student individually as each musician needs a unique approach to specific challenges.

Andrew Fierova [was] my horn teacher…at Davidson College. From day one, he [was] nothing but supportive of me and the path I want to take. I [was] a biology and music double major considering careers in the biological sciences, and he never tried to push me into being a professional musician. Instead, he provided me with information and shared his experiences in the music world so I have all of the knowledge to make informed decisions, and he continues to support me in whatever choices I make about my future.

I love how kind and uplifting Mr. Andrew is and how he always pushes me to be the best I can be.
